How can recycling efforts help mitigate climate change?
Why has overall recycling rate fallen from 62 per cent in 2013 to 52 per cent in 2023?
Why is there a need to reduce the waste sent to the landfill each day by 30 per cent by 2030 under the Zero Waste Masterplan?
Read about the following initiatives in Singapore:
Abraclean, opened in 2023, is the first recycling plant in Singapore that can repurpose glass waste into an abrasive that removes unwanted coatings such as rust and paint from metal surfaces in industrial applications,
Recycling start-up Magorium was founded in 2019 to turn plastic waste into road construction material. The company has paved nine roads – including driveways at the DBS Newton Green building, a condominium in Marymount, and a road near the Sentosa Sensoryscape attraction – and converted close to 100 tonnes of plastic waste into NewBitumen.

How does the introduction of the MyResponder app help to build up community resilience?
What are the successes and limitations?
More than 170,000 people are registered on the myResponder app. Since the launch of the app in 2015, at least 76 people who had a cardiac arrest have been saved by such responders.
Aside from alerting community responders to incidents via the myResponder mobile application, users may also access information on the nearest automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and send photographs and videos of fires to help Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel assess the gravity of the situation. There have been more than 40,000 myResponder cases up.
